Prerequisiti

Students are expected to have attended the Course of Constitutional Law.

Obiettivi del corso

The course provides an introduction to the Law of the European Union. It explores the theories of the European integration and examines the constitutional and institutional structure of the EU. Particular attention is devoted to the division of competences among the EU institutions and between the EU and its member States. Other topics include the EU's role in promoting human rights and key legal aspects of the external action of the EU.

6. The institutional framework of the EU.
7. Sources of EU law.
8. Legislative powers and procedures in the EU.
9. Judicial control within the EU.
10. Supremacy of EU law.
11. Economic and Monetary Union.
12. Area of freedom, security and justice
13. The EU as an international actor.
14. The EU as a 'Global Player' in human rights.

Students regularly attending the Course will be expected to prepare for the exam on the basis of the notes taken during the Course and of the relevant materials indicated by the lecturer.
Students not attending the Course are advised to consult the Treaties (TEU and TFEU) as well as relevant EU legislation and cases as cited in the textbook.
