Tourism economics

No pre-requisites are required.
The course will provide the basic knowledge on the fundamentals of the tourism analysis to evaluate the extent and the mechanisms through which the tourism influences the economic system. The student will be able to identify an analyze the behavior of agents involved in tourism market from the demand and supply side, and identify the strategies for tourism development.
The course is dedicated to the study and role of the tourism sector within the economic system. In particular, the course explores the economic aspects surrounding the tourism activity that involves a bundle of goods and services which are grouped according to the purpose of the purchase, and has a huge relevance for the tourist destination.

1. Introduction to the Economics of Tourism: definitions and key concepts
2. The Tourism Sector in the Economy
3. The Economics of Tourism Destinations
4. The Macroeconomics of Tourism

The course will be held entirely in English.

The teaching approach is theoretical and the contents will be delivered through front registered lectures.
The exam consists of an oral test, with a series of questions aimed at verifying the student’s theoretical understanding of the main economic aspects of tourism.
The final evaluation is calculated as the average of the three components:
- knowledge of fundamental theoretical concepts (60%),
- ability to critically analyze current issues on tourism (20%),
- appropriate use of technical language (20%).
The course will be held entirely in English.
