Gill Philip (Edimburgo, 1974) ha iniziato la sua carriera come Collaboratore ed Esperto Linguistico di madrelingua inglese (Università di Bologna, 1997-2010). Nel dicembre del 2010 si è trasferita all'Università di Macerata dove ha lavorato prima come Ricercatore presso il Dipartimento di Scienze della formazione, dei beni culturali e del turismo (2010-2015). Da ottobre 2015 è Professore Associato presso il Dipartimento di Studi Umanistici.

Dottore di ricerca in corpus linguistics (Birmingham, UK, 2004), le sue ricerche riguardano soprattutto il linguaggio formulaico e figurato, dalla fraseologia alle metafore, dalla "naturalezza" alla connotazione. La sua monografia, Colouring Meaning (John Benjamins, 2011) ha ricevuto una "menzione d'onore" nel Book Prize conferito dall'Associazione Italiana di Anglistica (2013).

Segue tesi in tutti i campi della linguistica applicata e/o cognitiva, compresi: la didattica delle lingue moderne, la linguistica dei corpora, la fraseologia, studi sulla metafora concettuale e/o linguistica, l'analisi del testo, la traduzione.
