Prerequisiti

A basic knowledge in microeconomics is strongly recommended.

Obiettivi del corso

The course aims at offering knowledge on more recent developments in the
international trade and investments theories and policies with applications to real
world issues.
Students are expected to be able to understand and discuss current
trade and investments policy issues and usa data on trade and investments.

1. Theories of Inter-industry, intra-industry and intra-firm trade;
2. Trade policies and welfare;
3. Tariffs, export subsidies and quantitative restrictions;
4. Trade policies of the European Union
5. Intellectual property rights and trade
6. Trade and environment
7. Trade and development
8. Trade and labour policies
9. Trade agreements
10. Multinational enterprises: facts, issues and overview of theories
11. Determinants of Foreign Direct Investments
12. Effects of Foreign Direct Investments on host and home economies

Modalità di valutazione
  • A) For students attending 75% of lectures:
    1. Practical work during the course
    2. Written exam with one question


    B) For students attending less than 75% of lectures:
    Written exam with three questions:
    a) two problems similar to those included in the textbook aimed at checking skills in
    applying the theories to real world issues;
    b) one open question devoted to verify the theoretical knowledge.
