Basic knowledge of microeconomics and macroeconomics
The aim of the course is to point out the scope for action to direct the economy. It focuses on three fields of action: 1) real world markets, their effect on social welfare and possible remedies; 2) the aggregate economy and policies to achieve an adequate level of employment and rate of growth; 3) the quantitative and qualitative features of development and how they can be acted upon.

- Frontal lectures with occasional discussions.
- The exam aims to ascertain the student's overall understanding of the basic theoretical issues underlying economic policy. It consists in a discussion of about 20 minutes.
English will be used throughout the course
The exam will be in English
