The lab aims at offering conceptual and practical tools to understand the impact of digital technology and especially of technology based on artificial intelligence (AI) systems such as machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) algorithms on matters of global justice and discrimination. The lab will integrate theoretical reflection, applied work on case studies, and analysis of phenomena of injustice and discrimination prompted by digital technology and reinforced by AI systems at a global level in a wide range of social domains, from criminal justice to healthcare. Students are expected to gain knowledge and specific competencies to detect, comprehend, critically reason on, and practically investigate how digital technology and AI systems are driving forces of global justice and/or injustice affecting and shaping international relations as well as the development of national and international policy regulations.
