The course aims to give the students the instruments to understand the topics and the
dynamics of the world of International relations, helping them to develop their
intercultural capacities through the study of the technical language useful for an
adequate communication in English.
The students will be able to use the acquired competence to work effectively in a
globalized world, think of International events in a critical and systematic way and face
situations typical of their future job.
The course is composed by two modules:
The first module gives the student the opportunity to put some aspects of their field of
study into practice:
- Developing intercultural skills
- Communicating effectively
- Decision making and problem solving
- Negotiations
- Managing conflict
- Working in an international team
- The structures of the oral and written political discourse
In the second module the use of the English language will be analysed in documents
and case studies regarding the topics studied by the students This will allow them to
better understand and use the vocabulary of their field of study. The main grammar
structures will be studied in depth to reach the level C1 of the CEFR.
The study of grammar is closely linked with the lessons of English language held by
the language assistant at the Centro Linguistico di Ateneo (CLA) (cla.unimc.it). The
attendance, even if not compulsory, is crucial to reach a real progress in the students'
competencies.
