The participation will be easier for students having experienced multilingual and multicultural contexts thanks to university exchange programmes or other personal opportunities. The exercises will demonstrate the necessity to cooperate, in order to achieve a common result, with people who are different in terms of language and culture.
The objective of the course is to provide the students with a general vision of Project Cycle Management, with particular attention to the 'Identification', 'Programming', and 'Monitoring and Evaluation’ phases.
By the end of the course, students will have the theoretical basis to understand and develop a project. In addition, students will strengthen their communication and public speaking skills through group work and presentations.
The course focuses on project cycle management of public interventions and its key features, such as the Logical Framework and Project Cycle. The course draws on international experience, both in international development cooperation and European policies (Cohesion Policy and CAP). The main topics of the course are:
· Presentation of the course: summary of the issues, bibliography
· Programming phase: link between policies and programme
· Identification Phase: needs assessment
· Formulation Phase: Logical Framework and Indicators
· Implementation Phase: financial sustainability and delivery tools
· Evaluation Phase: relevance, efficiency, effectiveness, sustainability, coherence, and impact.
The above topics concern the theoretical module of the Project Cycle Management, 20 CFU.

Teaching will be conducted entirely in English.

The course will be conducted through lectures with a mainly theoretical focus. There will also be group work and exercises on practical cases concerning the elaboration of projects. Students will then be asked to present their group work and results. This is followed by a session dedicated to discussion and exchange among the students.
In order to enhance the learning process, the teacher will make available to the students, via her personal web page, any teaching material that she considers useful.
The preparation and skills acquired by the student will be assessed by means of a written test to be taken at the end of the course lectures. The test will be in English.
The written test will be structured with short open-ended questions and long open-ended answers. It will not be possible to consult texts during the examination.
During the examination the student will be required to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the key theoretical concepts of the Project Cycle Management approach.
The examination will be assessed on the following criteria:
- Ability to apply knowledge,
- autonomy of judgement and critical thinking
- Application of the acquired knowledge in terms of professional usability.
