The expected learning outcomes are that students will acquire a good knowledge (historical-literary context as well as poetics) of some of the most important Italian authors who lived and worked in the nineteenth and twentieth century: Alessandro Manzoni, Giacomo Leopardi, Giovanni Verga, Luigi Pirandello, Italo Svevo, Gabriele d'Annunzio, Giuseppe Ungaretti, Eugenio Montale.
The program will focus on the biography and poetics of the following Italian authors:
Alessandro Manzoni, Giacomo Leopardi, Giovanni Verga, Luigi Pirandello, Italo Svevo, Gabriele d'Annunzio, Giuseppe Ungaretti, Eugenio Montale. A selection of their works translated into English will also be analyzed.

- Lectures (they may include presentation slides).
- Oral exam (at least three questions) to assess the following skills:
1. knowledge of the information and concepts provided in the course;
2. correct understanding of the above-mentioned concepts and ability to explain them clearly;
3. ability to critically analyze and evaluate the concepts provided in the course;
4. ability to present information in a clear, correct, and effective way;
5. ability to identify the main focus of the questions asked and to answer them fully.
Classes will be conducted in English only.
Examinations will be conducted in English only.
