The expected learning outcomes are that students will acquire a good knowledge (historical-literary context as well as poetics) of some of the most important Italian authors who lived and worked in the nineteenth and twentieth century: Alessandro Manzoni, Giacomo Leopardi, Giovanni Verga, Luigi Pirandello, Italo Svevo, Gabriele d'Annunzio, Giuseppe Ungaretti, Eugenio Montale.
The program will focus on the biography and poetics of the following Italian authors:
Alessandro Manzoni, Giacomo Leopardi, Giovanni Verga, Luigi Pirandello, Italo Svevo, Gabriele d'Annunzio, Giuseppe Ungaretti, Eugenio Montale. A selection of their works translated into English will also be analyzed.

Classes and exams will be conducted in English only.

Lectures.
Oral exam (at least three questions) to assess the following skills:
1. knowledge of the information and concepts provided in the course 25% of the final mark.
2. correct understanding of the above-mentioned concepts and ability to explain them clearly 25% of the final mark.
3. ability to critically analyze and evaluate the concepts provided in the course 20% of the final mark.
4. ability to present information in a clear, correct, and effective way 15% of the final mark
5. ability to identify the main focus of the questions asked and to answer them fully 15% of the final mark.
The teaching is exclusively in English.
