Emmanuele Pavolini is Full Professor in Economic Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Macerata (Italy). Between 2007 and 2017 he was Senior Lecturer at the same University. Between 2000 and 2006 he was Lecturer in Economic Sociology and Social Policy at the Department of Social Studies, Faculty of Economics, Marche Polytechnic University. He received his BA. in Economics from Ancona University in 1994 and his Ph.D. in Economic Sociology from Brescia University in 2000, with a Thesis on the Development of new forms of the “Welfare Mix” in the Italian Welfare State. As an economic sociologist he has focused his research interests in two fields: a) welfare state studies from a comparative perspective, with specific attention to the Italian and Southern European welfare states, social policies (i.e. family policies, elderly care / LTC, child care, social care and health care and, more recently, education), inequalities in the access to welfare state provision, occupational welfare, welfare mix and third sector organizations; b) labour market research and economic development, with a focus on the changing roles of professionals, networks among enterprises, strategies for competitiveness, and the role of migrants in the labour market He is co-chair of the board of Italian ESPAnet. He is co-editor of the Journal of European Social Policy. He is National Expert for Italy of the European Commission Expert Network ENASSP (Expert Network for Analytical Support in Social Policies). He is Spokesman (with C. Saraceno and A.
