Prerequisiti

students must already have a B1.1 knowledge of French (Common European Framework of Reference).


LEVEL B1 IN FRENCH IS REQUIRED TO FOLLOW THE COURSE.


ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS IN FRENCH MUST FOLLOW THE PREPARATORY COURSE ("CORSO PROPEDEUTICO DE FRANÇAIS") TAUGHT BY THE MOTHER-TONGUE TEACHER ("LETTORE") DURING THE FIRST SEMESTER.


HOWEVER, STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT REACHED THE REQUIRED LEVEL ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO CONTACT THE TEACHER BEFORE THE COURSE BEGINS.



Obiettivi del corso

With reference to the Dublin descriptors, the learning objectives of the course are as follows:

(1) To know and understand the specialized language used in tourism and management. Students will become familiar with key concepts and terminology related to this field.


(2) Applied knowledge and understanding in professional contexts related to tourism and management. Students will be able to apply their language skills effectively and appropriately in a variety of situations in order to design a tourist tour, present it using multimedia tools (Powerpoint, Canva) and design a tourist brochure.



(3) Autonomy and sound judgment in the tourism and management sectors. Students will be able to analyze and evaluate information, points of view and arguments related to this field, in order to make informed decisions and formulate well-argued recommendations.


(4) Communication skills, both oral and written, in tourism and management contexts. Students will be able to effectively convey ideas, concepts and information to multiple and varied audiences, using appropriate language and communication strategies.


(5) Ability to learn independently. Students will be able to engage in independent learning, actively using the resources provided and seeking new research in order to broaden their language skills and strengthen their understanding of the topics covered.



Programma del corso

Course program


The course consists of two different classes: one taught by the teacher and another given by the "expert language collaborator" (mother-tongue teacher or "lettore").


The "expert language collaborator" (mother-tongue teacher or "lettore") will teach grammar subjects, and his classes will focus on general communication skills, and on the lexicon needed to complete a tourist tour.


The teacher will focus on the specialized language of tourism, and his classes will be held mainly in French, with English translations where necessary.


Topics covered: tourism sector language: lexical fields: hotels, gastronomy and wine, managing and planning a tourist circuit; itineraries and cultural tourism (religious, remembrance, etc.); creating tourist itineraries, presenting and promoting them in French; using these new skills in a comparative perspective with their own countries. Management, planning and promotion of a tourist circuit.

Metodi didattici
  • Classes will be held in French and the relationship between the French language and culture will be explored. Authentic documents related to tourism will be used as a starting point for discussion and analysis, as well as for the acquisition of French. 


    A) Knowing and learning to use discourse structures in French, developing intercultural communicative skills through simulations of cultural activities and through coordination between this course and practical language activities carried out in the ULC .

    B) The authentic documents used as a basis for the course will be rich in tourism-related terminology. Reading skills as well as the skills necessary for active production of textual documents will be reinforced through group activities: - introduction to the main issues in the tourism industry; - reading and discussions in French; - production of tourism documents.

Modalità di valutazione
  • Final exam: This exam will consist of three parts:

    1) a discussion in French on the issues covered or the texts read in class.

    2) reading of the French texts that have been studied and grammar questions.

    3) presentation of a tourism project (assessment of the written part and the oral presentation).

    The overall mark will be calculated by averaging parts 1), 2) and 3). Marks will range from zero to thirty.
