In collaboration with the China Institute for Income Distribution (Beijing Normal University, China)
The second edition of the Summer School on "Income, Inequality and Poverty across the Globe" aims at offering participants a better understanding of domestic and international patterns of income distribution, by providing lecture sessions on the main approaches to the measurement of inequality and poverty, their main trends, and their fundamental determinants. During the School, students will also have an opportunity to present their own research in front of the whole group of students and receive comments from faculty.
Description of the School
Over the recent decades, the distribution of income has been evolving in many advanced and developing countries, leading to increased disparities between the rich and poor, a declining share of the middle class, and a growing public demand for redistribution. Furthermore, increasingly convincing evidence has been provided to show that growing income inequality has harmful effects on economic growth and poverty reduction, and tends to amplify the risk of crisis. As a consequence, the subject of income inequality and poverty has featured prominently back in the economics research agenda, especially following the onset of the Great Recession in 2007 and the most recent COVID-19 pandemic, both of which have raised renewed concerns about poverty, inequality and the ability of the world economy to fully recover from the resulting economic crises.
The panel of the speakers features several experts in the field of distributional analysis, who will be partly joining the Summer School in presence and partly online. Announced speakers are Gianni Betti (University of Siena), Andrea Brandolini (Bank of Italy), Fabio Clementi (University of Macerata), Elisabetta Croci Angelini (University of Macerata), Conchita D’Ambrosio (University of Luxembourg), Roberto Iacono (Norwegian University of Science and Technology), Stephen Jenkins (London School of Economics), Vasco Molini (The World Bank), Francesco Schettino (University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli"), Li Shi (Zhejiang University and CIID), Enzo Valentini (University of Macerata), Haiyuan Wan (Beijing Normal University and CIID) and Juzhong Zhuang (Asian Development Bank).
