Introduction to european history

Specific prerequisites are not required.
The course aims to provide:
- knowledge and understanding of the most relevant institutional, political, economic and social factors of the European history;
- applied knowledge and understanding, with reference to the value of the cultural heritage;
- making judgment, especially understanding continuity and fractures in the historical processes;
- communication skills, especially in the correct use of sector-based language;
- learning skills, especially through the acquisition of historical categories.
Students must study the item “History of Europe” in Wikipedia.org: including “Overview”, but excluding the part “Prehistory of Europe” and resuming from “Ancient Europe – Ancient Rome” to “Imperialism” (about 20 total pages in the printable version).
The recordings lectures focus on:
1. Ancient Rome: a city and its mighty Empire
2. The characters of the Middle Ages
3. What’s about Renaissance?
4. The emergence of modern Europe, 1500–1648
5. The great age of monarchy, 1648–1789
6. Revolutions and the growth of industrial society, 1789–1914
For each of these topics, students need to take into consideration same brief in-depth analysis about cultural heritage, taken from YouTube:

The teaching is historical.
Methods adopted: recoreded lectures and interactive web tools.
The test is an oral exam in English.
The exam interview will consist in a discussion about: one of the topics contained in each of the above lists in the "Programme"(List 1 and List 2).
The criteria adopted for the graduation of the marks are the following:
- knowledge and understanding of disciplinary contents (30% of the overall assessment);
- ability to use the chronology (20% of the overall assessment);
- ability to critically rework the learned contents (30% of the overall assessment);
- accuray in presentation, especially in the use of specific language (20% of the overall assessment)
