The course aims to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of the most important topics in maritime law, with a modern approach and also with reference to new technologies.
Students will be able to autonomously read and interpret legal texts and be familiar with Italian and foreign case law. The learning outcomes are aimed at enabling students to achieve the full capacity to correctly approach legal issues by confidently using concepts and methods.
The course will be entirely in english. For students not enrolled in the IECoLS degree programme, an English language proficiency level of at least B2 is required.
The course focuses on the most important topics of maritime law, such as: principles of National, European and International maritime law; sources of maritime law, shipbuilding, sale, charterparties; maritime transport; carriage of passengers; the protection of sea passengers; the liabilities of the vessel; safety and compliance; marine pollution from shipping activities; carriage of dangerous goods; marine insurance; maritime Law and new technologies (blockchain and artificial intelligence), autonomous vessels.

The course will be implemented by the study of jurisprudential cases.
Specific materials and texts on specific topics will be suggested during classes.
The final examination is in English and oral. It is aimed at verifying the knowledge acquired in the study of the subject, the student's ability to mastering the various institutes, and the coherent exposition of the topics covered in the course.
The criteria adopted for assessment are as follows: knowledge and ability to understand texts (20% of the total overall assessment), ability to make connections between texts (20%), ability to apply knowledge (20%), autonomy of judgment and critical thinking (20%), transposition of acquired knowledge in terms of professional usability (20%)
