Prior knowledge of Russian is not required.
This course develops the language contents, skills, and competences corresponding to A1 level of the CEFR.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to read and comprehend simple texts in Russian. They will also be able to interact in both formal and informal everyday situations in a simple, yet effective, and appropriate way. Learners will be capable of introducing themselves, talking briefly about their personal background, expressing needs, and making polite requests. Moreover, they will be able to produce basic written texts on the topics covered throughout the course.
Main topics covered in the course:
- The Cyrillic alphabet and transliteration rules
- Basic concepts of phonetics
- Introduction to Russian morphology
- Inflection in nominal, adjectival, and pronominal systems
- Introductory notions of the Russian tense-aspect system
- The present tense: regular and selected irregular forms
- Verbs with the particle -sja
- Modal expressions
- Introduction to motion verbs without prefixes.
Communicative skills: Learners will develop the ability to introduce themselves, talk about their family and city, describe the location of objects and people, discuss leisure activities and aspects of daily life, and express preferences and interests in a simple yet effective way.

Further information / additional materials
Course materials will be provided in class by the lecturer and will be made available to both attending and non-attending students.

The course will primarily consist of interactive lessons. Classroom exercises will also be proposed, along with occasional group activities.
Equipment used: projector or interactive whiteboard.
The assessment comprises both a written and an oral test, each tailored to the content covered during the lessons. The written test will assess students' understanding of key grammatical and lexical aspects studied throughout the course. It will include completion exercises, multiple-choice questions, closed-ended items, and short open-ended questions. The oral test will involve a discussion of the written work, as well as additional questions related to the course topics.
Both tests will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

- Communication skills
- Learning abilities.
