    ILOS 2020-2021

    This module aims at enabling students to become more confident, efficient, and perceptive members of the academic community who are able to communicate to others through writing and speaking the contents and main ideas of what is read or heard. It furthermore aims at improving students’ accuracy, fluency and spontaneity in producing and understanding spoken English. Students in this module should achieve a B2+ level of proficiency of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages[1].

    • Students will strengthen their knowledge of correct usage of English grammar in writing and speaking;
    • Students will attain and enhance competence in the four modes of literacy: writing, speaking, reading and listening;
    • Students will be required to give oral presentations and receive feedback on their performance from peers and teachers;
    • Students will strengthen their ability to write essays and summaries using the process approach, i.e. demonstrating the ability to describe the actions carried out in order to reach a result;
    • Students will strengthen their ability to be critical readers and writers;

    These outcomes will be achieved through the development of the following activities: discussion with peers and teachers about articles, short stories and videos; engaging in peer-review, self-assessment and ipsative assessment; summary and essay writing including the drafting process.
