Linguistica.
Course description
The course will focus on the fundamentals of creative writing. Beginning with the key elements of a
great story, the class will then explore the topics of character development, plot development,
dialogue, exposition, point of view, theme and motif, pace, voice, and suspense. The course will
feature in-class workshops for brainstorming ideas for characters, plots and themes while also
giving students time to work on their writing skills. During the course, students will be asked to
develop, write and present parts of a short story, a prologue or a first chapter (their choice). Class
time will be used to analyze and critique student submissions. This writing process will culminate in
a final submission at the end of the course.
