JOHN McCOURT è rettore dell'Università di Macerata per il sessennio 2022-28. E' stato direttore del dipartimento di Studi Umanistici da novembre 2021 a novembre 2022. E' professore ordinario di Letteratura inglese all’Università di Macerata.

E’ Presidente dell’International James Joyce Foundation.

Ha insegnato all’Università Roma Tre dove è stato direttore del CRISIS (Centro di Ricerca Interdipartimentale per gli Studi Irlandesi e Scozzesi) e all’Università di Trieste (dove è stato co-fondatore della Trieste Joyce School nel 1997). Attualmente è Presidente della Scuola Joyce.

E’ stato Visiting professor/Fellow a Concordia University, Montreal, Université de Valenciennes, Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3, the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Centre, University of Texas, the University of Pennsylvania.

È autore di numerosi libri e articoli su James Joyce e sulla letteratura irlandese del XIX e XX secolo. Fra le pubblicazioni spiccano: Consuming Joyce 100 Years of Ulysses in Ireland (Bloomsbury 2022), Ulisse Guida alla Lettura (Carocci, 2021). E’ anche l’autore di The Years of Bloom: Joyce in Trieste 1904 - 1920 (2000). Questo volume è stato tradotto in spagnolo, ungherese, e giapponese. L’edizione italiana, Gli Anni di Bloom (Mondadori, 2005), ha vinto il premio Comisso. Nel 2009 ha pubblicato James Joyce in Context (Cambridge University Press) e Questioni Biografiche: Le Tante Vite di Yeats and Joyce (Bulzoni). Nel 2010 ha curato il volume Roll Away the Reel World: James Joyce and Cinema (Cork University Press). Nel 2015 ha pubblicato Writing the Frontier Anthony Trollope between Britain and Ireland (Oxford University Press). Il volume è stato presentato a General Post Office di Dublino dall’ambasciatore britannico in Irlanda, S.E. Dominic Chilcott. E’ anche curatore dei volumi Flann O'Brien: Problems with Authority (Cork University Press, 2017) e Reading Brendan Behan (Cork University Press, 2019).

JOHN McCOURT is Rector of the University of Macerata (2022-28). He previously served as Head of the Department of the Humanities. He is professor of English literature.

He is President of the International James Joyce Foundation. He previously taught at the Università Roma Tre where he was director of CRISIS (the centre for research into Irish and Scottish literature) and at the University of Trieste (where he co-founded and continues to co-direct the Trieste Joyce School).

He has been visiting professor or fellow at Concordia University, Montreal, Université de Valenciennes, Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3, the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Centre, University of Texas, the University of Pennsylvania.

He is the author of many books and articles on James Joyce and on 19th and 20th century Irish literature including Consuming Joyce 100 Years of Ulysses in Ireland (Bloomsbury 2022), Ulisse Guida alla Lettura (Carocci, 2021). He is also the author of The Years of Bloom: Joyce in Trieste 1904 - 1920 (2000). This volume was translated into Spanish, Japanese, and Hungarian while the Italian version, Gli Anni di Bloom (Mondadori, 2005), won the Comisso prize. In 2009 his edited collection, James Joyce in Context, was published by Cambridge University Press. In the same year he published Questioni Biografiche: Le Tante Vite di Yeats and Joyce (Bulzoni). This was followed by Roll Away the Reel World: James Joyce and Cinema (Cork University Press, 2010).
