Basic knowledge of microeconomics
The course aims to provide students with advanced knowledge of the new theories of international trade and multinational firms, and offers insights into the challenges posed by differing national policies from the perspective of global firms.
The course will provide students with a basic knowledge of the new trade theories focusing on firms in international trade.
Key topics will be the following:
a) Evidence about firms in global trade
b) Economies of scale and the monopolistic competition model
c) External economies of scale and international trade
d) Heterogeneous firms and trade
e) Theories iof multinational firms
f) National policies and international firms: intellectual property rights and trade
g) National policies and international firms: environmental policies and trade
