Obiettivi del corso

The aim of the course is to provide students with a comprehensive framework for understanding typologies and modalities of the educational tourism sector, examined from the perspectives of formal and informal education. The different areas of edu-tourism will be explored in order to identify the educational-touristic potentials of territories and resources.




Programma del corso

Educational forms of tourism: "education first" to "tourism first" types. Characteristics, needs and impact of different markets of educational tourism: tourism for schools and students; cultural tourism; eco-tourism; experiential learning oriented tourism for adults and seniors; social tourism; accessible tourism.

Extracts from Ritchie (2003) and further handouts will be provided to attending students during the lessons.

Metodi didattici
  • Lectures will alternate with group-exercises aimed at exploring and consolidating the topics examined during theoretical lectures. In order to analyze in depth and to apply specific tools, the class will take place - if possible - at the "Paolo and Ornella Ricca" Museum of school history of the University of Macerata.
Modalità di valutazione
  • The final examination will be oral and object of evaluation (for a maximum of 30/30 marks) will be: correctness and completeness of the acquired knowledge (up to 10 marks); communication skills (up to 10 marks); critical elaboration and problem-solving (up to 10 marks).

    Attending students are expected to present an educational tourism product realized in the group-exercises carried out during the lessons.
    Non-attending students are expected to hold a discussion on the contents of recommended textbooks.
