Prerequisiti

Students need to have a C1 level of English, both in writing and speaking. This will be verified during the course and prior to accessing the final translation exam.

Knowledge of translation techniques is also encouraged and favored, as this course aims to provide highly specialized competences.

Communication and intercultural strategies and knowledge are also important.

Obiettivi del corso

The course aims to offer students specialized tools and strategies for the analysis, comprehension and transfer of texts expressing ideology in various ways.

Students will be guided into the deep analysis of different types of texts, prior to embarking on their translation from and into English.

Theoretical, methodological and practical competences are at the core of this course.

Programma del corso

Translation for international communication is dense with ideology and the expression thereof. This course focuses on the linguistic expression of ideology in international communication and translation. Concentrating on specific thematic areas (religion, politics, postcolonialism and cultural rights), the course aims to give students the analytical tools to identify, understand and appropriately convey ideology in international communication.

The texts that will be used are taken from the international printed press, from books and essays, news reports, podcasts and other video footage.

The books are essential, they will be analysed extensively during the course.
