Prerequisiti

THE B1 LEVEL IN SPANISH IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE COURSE.
ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS IN SPANISH MUST ATTEND THE PREPARATORY COURSE ("CORSO PROPEDEUTICO DI SPAGNOLO") TAUGHT BY THE NATIVE SPEAKING TEACHER ("LETTORE") DURING THE FIRST SEMESTER.
EVEN SO, STUDENTS WHO DON'T ACHIEVE THE REQUIRED LEVEL ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO CONTACT THE TEACHER BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSE.

Obiettivi del corso

Students are expected to achieve the level B2 in Spanish, according to the Common
European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The course aims to pursue, in addition, the following learning objectives:
a) to acquire knowledge, skills, and abilities in the Spanish technical language of tourism;
b) to be able to interact in professional situations related to tourism;
It is expected, moreover, that students will acquire abilities to promote the autonomous learning by the use of lexicographical, bibliographical and technological tools.

Programma del corso

The syllabus of the Hispanic Language and Culture course is carried out in the context of two types of lessons: those provided by the teacher and those given by the native speaker teacher (Lettore).
The syllabus includes two main areas, each of which is divided into specific content:
1) Spanish language as a communication system:
a) skills and abilities according to the B2 Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: this part of the programme will be developped mostly during the lessons given by the native speaker teacher, who will organize different groups of students according to their level of knowledge of Spanish;
2) Technical language of tourism:
a) Lexical areas: hotel; gastronomy; tourism management and planning; routes and cultural tourism;
b) Functions: talking about oneself in a professional setting; writing a resume; develop a business idea and know how to describe and promote it in Spanish; create slogans for tourism companies in Spanish; develop tourist circuits and know how to present and describe them in Spanish; analyze and comment on the national branding campaigns of the main Spanish-speaking countries, comparing them with those of one's own country.

NB: The native speaker teacher will give a simultaneous and complementary course about the grammar part of the syllabus with an English based approach, if necessary.

Further teaching materials (audiovisual, articles, lecture notes) will be distributed and uploaded on the webpage of the course. This kind of material is not specified here as it will be selected on current issues and motivations emerged from time to time in the class.

Metodi didattici
  • The lessons are held exclusively in Spanish. An active and motivated participation from the
    students is required.
    The teaching methods will be:
    Direct Teaching;
    Task-based learning;
    Exercises in groups;
    Use of multimedia (audio-visual aids, websites, blogs);
    Role Playing;
    Presentations of individual and team researches.
    Further practices and exercises will be realized by the native speaker teacher.

    The modalities of each course's provision, as well as the related teaching methodologies, may vary based on the eventual further Ministerial or University dispositions with reference to the health emergency.
Modalità di valutazione
  • The mid-term exam is obligatory and consists of an oral exposition about an individual project
    in Spanish. All the details will be posted on the website of the course.
    The final exam is written and consists of three parts: a grammar test, a reading
    comprehension exercise, and the writing of texts and dialogues related to tourism.
    The course of the native speaker teacher also ends with a final written test. The test accounts the average of the final grade.
    The mid-term presentation, grammar test and final ritten exam will be evaluated in marks out of thirty.
    The final grade will be calculated as the average of the mid-term and the final examinations grades.
