Prerequisiti

THE B1 LEVEL IN SPANISH IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE COURSE.

ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS IN SPANISH MUST ATTEND THE PREPARATORY COURSE ("CORSO PROPEDEUTICO DI SPAGNOLO") TAUGHT BY THE NATIVE SPEAKER ASSISTAN ("LETTORE") DURING THE FIRST SEMESTER.

EVEN SO, STUDENTS WHO DON'T ACHIEVE THE REQUIRED LEVEL ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO CONTACT THE TEACHER BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSE.

Obiettivi del corso

The main objective of the course is for students to learn about Spanish as a system of communication, including its sociolinguistic dimension, and acquire the main skills of comprehension and production provided for level B2 according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages.


Referring to the Dublin descriptors, the learning objectives of the course are the following:


(1) Knowledge and understanding the specialist language used in the field of Tourism. Students will become familiar with key concepts and terminology related to this area.

(2) Knowledge and understanding applied in professional contexts related to Tourism. Students will be able to apply language skills effectively and appropriately in various situations.

(3) Autonomy of informed judgment in the sectors of Tourism. Students will be able to analyze and evaluate information, perspectives and arguments related to this area, in order to make informed decisions and provide well-reasoned recommendations.

(4) Communication skills, both oral and written, in the contexts of Tourism. Students will be able to effectively transmit ideas, concepts and information to multiple and variable recipients, using appropriate language and communication strategies.

(5) Independent learning ability. Students will be able to engage in independent learning, actively seeking out and using the resources provided to further expand their language competence and strengthen their understanding of the topics.

Programma del corso

The course consists of two different types of lessons: those taught by the teacher and those given by the native speaking assistant or "lettore madrelingua".

The teacher will focus on specialized language of tourism, and her lessons will be held mostly in Spanish, translating into English when is needed.

The native speaking assistant will teach the grammar topics and his lessons will focus on general communications skills, with an English based approach.

The course programme covers two series of topics:

1) Spanish language as a communication system: including a part of the upper-intermediate skills and abilities in Spanish, according to the B2 Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This part of the programme will be developped mostly during the lessons given by the native speaking assistant, who will organize different groups of students according to their entry level in Spanish;

2) Technical language of tourism, including the following lexical areas: tourism professions; tourism management and planning; routes and cultural tourism, advertising language. The following functions and linguistic skills will be exercised: talking about oneself in a professional context; writing a resume; developing a business idea and present it in Spanish; creating slogans for tourism companies in Spanish; creating touristic itineraries and present them in Spanish; record a travel podcast; talking about the national branding campaigns of the main Spanish-speaking countries, comparing them with those of one's own country.

Metodi didattici
  • Lessons are always interactive, therefore regular attendance and motivated participation by students is required.

    The teaching methods will be:

    Direct Teaching;

    Task-based learning;

    Exercises in groups;

    Use of multimedia (audio-visual aids, websites, blogs);

    Role Playing;

    Presentations of individual and groups researches.

    Further practices and exercises will be realized by the native speaker assistant professor.

Modalità di valutazione
  • Mandatory intermediate test graded out of thirty: it consists of an oral presentation of an individual or group project relating to the specialized contents of the course, according to a calendar and guidelines provided during the lessons and published on the course's web page and Teams channel.

    Final written exam graded out of thirty: true/false comprehension exercises, cloze, open-ended questions, guided writing, aimed at ascertaining and evaluating the linguistic and communication skills acquired. During the written exam students will be allowed to consult a monolingual Spanish dictionary. International students will be allowed to use the bilingual English Spanish dictionary. A written simulation model of the final exam will be available among the course teaching materials (course web page and corresponding Teams channel).

    The lessons of the native speaking assistant includes a final written test, graded out of thirty. The test includes completion exercises, cloze, multiple choice and guided writing. During the test, which is normally held during the last lesson by the native speaking assistant, students will not be allowed to consult the dictionary. A written simulation model of the test will be available among the course teaching materials (course web page and corresponding Teams channel).

    The criteria adopted for the evaluation of the ongoing test and the final test will be:

    (a) Language proficiency (score from 1/30 to 6/30)

    (b) Understanding and analyzing texts in Spanish (score from 1/30 to 6/30)

    (c) Application of linguistic knowledge (score from 1/30 to 6/30)

    (d) Critical thinking and linguistic analysis (score from 1/30 to 6/30)

    (e) Linguistic application in professional contexts (score from 1/30 to 6/30)

    The final grade will be the average of the intermediate and final assessments and the grammar test
