Gill Philip holds a BA in Italian Studies and Music (University of Birmingham, 1996) and a PhD in Corpus Linguistics (University of Birmingham, 2004). From 1997 to 2010 she was a Language assistant at the University of Bologna where she collaborated on numerous self-access language learning courses as well as teaching English at all levels. She has been at the University of Macerata since 2010 and has taught courses on English language (EFL), teaching English to primary school pupils (TEFL), history of the English language, world Englishes, and corpus linguistics. Her main research interests lie in phraseology, formulaic language, figurative language (principally metaphor and idiom), and lexicography.
