Carla Canestrari is a permanent researcher in General Psychology at the Department of Education, Cultural Heritage and Tourism, University of Macerata, and on 10 July 2020 she obtained the national scientific qualification for the position of associate professor in General Psychology. At the University of Macerata she is a member of the University Research Ethics Committee, she is in the boards of the PhD courses in "Human Sciences" and in "Education, cultural heritage and territories". She serves as the coordinator of the Research Centre in Psychology of Communication and Text Semiotics "János Sándor Petöfi", University of Macerata. In 2005 she obtained her PhD in Psychology of Communication and Dialogue Techniques at the University of Macerata. Subsequently, at the same university, she served as a postdoctoral researcher in General Psychology for three years, during which she spent three months at Youngstown State University, Ohio (USA), where she worked with Professor Salvatore Attardo. She is on the editorial board of the scientific journals RISU (Rivista Italiana di Studi sull'Umorismo http://www.risu.biz/Redazione.html) and the International Journal of Emotional Education (indexed in Scopus and WOS). She constantly serves as a peer-reviewer of scientific articles for the journals Frontiers in Psychology, Current Psychology, Humor: International Journal of Humor Research, Europe's Journal of Psychology, Advances in Integrative Medicine, The European Journal of Humour Research, RISU, International Journal of Emotional Education, Review of Communication Research and of scientific volumes for Benjamins publishing company (series Topics in Humor Research). She also served as an external expert of the National Science Centre of Poland to review research projects applying for government funding.
